Exquisite Corpse

“Exquisite corpse: a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.”

Have you ever thought: “Gee wiz, I wish like a whole bunch of artists would get together and make some art. But I don’t want them to all work on it at the same time, I want them to take turns working on it. Oh, and I also don’t want them to plan it out, I just want one person to work on it and then pass it on to someone else and just see what happens!”…

Wait… you’ve never thought that? Are you thinking about it now? Sounds pretty neat, doesn’t it!? Well you’re in luck, because ARTillery Ohio and the Columbus Artmobile are teaming up and gathering local Columbus artists together to participate in our first Exquisite Corpse Event! On Saturday, September 25th all of the exquisite corpse pieces will be displayed here at the ARTillery Gallery in the South Campus Gateway, and you’re invited to participate! And guess what, there’s a bonus…not an artist but still want to be involved? No problem! That very same day all of the work will be sold at silent auction with the proceeds going towards several local art advocacy groups, with the remainder being used towards the purchase of a van/mini bus/some form of transportation for the Artmobile. The idea is to have a vehicle that can be gutted, then install permanent shelving for the supplies, as well as tables/chairs in order to turn the vehicle into a classroom on wheels!

As of now we have over 25 local artists from groups like the Couchfire Collective, CAW, Abx, Etsy Team Columbus, MAW, ARTillery, and more! If you’re an artist who is interested in being involved in this project then shoot us an e-mail at ColumbusArtmobile@gmail.com. After you’re signed up you can start a fresh piece to be passed on or we can give you a previously started piece for you to continue. There’s no limit to how many you can contribute to, and we are accepting artists of all mediums, so if you have the time then we have the canvas!

April Update!

I thought I'd take a few minutes to update folks on what's been happening with the Artmobile over the past few weeks. Thanks to Lisa McLymont, we now have an official logo! Also thanks to Lisa, the website, ColumbusArtmobile.com, is in it's final stages and will be up and running very soon.

We'll be out an about in a few places over the next month...on Thursday, April 22, we'll be running a kids' art booth at the Earth Day 2010 festival at Franklin Park from 3-8pm. Also appearing is local artist Eric Marlow so please come visit us if you can.

Then on Saturday, April 24 we'll be at ARTillery's Earth Day Art Market in the South Campus Gateway. Please consider bringing a donation of new or used art supplies. We're in need of a LOT of basics...paints (acrylic or watercolor), pastels, charcoal, paper, glue, scissors, etc. All of the supplies taken in will be used to help bring down the cost of our summer art classes, and be taken with us into Columbus schools this fall for the kids to use. The more supplies we bring in through donations, the more grant money we can put towards purchasing the un-fun things (ie-insurance).

SPEAKING of summer art classes....while we're still very much planning to travel to schools come this fall, the homeschooling community has expressed a great interested in working with us as well. Location is still being work out, but starting in early June there will be 2 classes available, one for ages 6-10 and one for the 11-14 yr olds. The younger class will meet for an hour once a week, and the older class for 90 minutes a week. Please send a msg or email ColumbusArtmobile@gmail.com if interested in signing your child up. All details regarding location, costs, times, etc should be finalized by mid-April.

Anyone interested in making a monetary donation, please do so through the Kickstarter website. We'll have our proposal on the site through May 31, and need to raise a minimum of $1000 to receive any of the money pledged so far. Right now we're at $420 which is AWESOME!!!

You can find us at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/862233924/columbus-artmobile

Thanks for all the support and for those of you hanging in there while I work out the many (many) kinks of getting up and running! : )

Think of me when you start your Spring Cleaning!

Hey folks!
With the reappearance of the sun (thank you mother nature!!) and the weather starting to warm, I thought some of you crazy kids might be getting a jump start on your spring cleaning. I know my own studio resembles quite the disaster area and much can be tossed or donated.

I'd love to take some things off your hands! I'm currently accepting donations of.... paper (newsprint, thicker cardstock, or textured papers preferred)
paint (acrylic, tempera or tubes of watercolor)
scissors (child friendly, fiscars, etc)
glue (bottles, sticks, spray adhesive, etc)
brushes (all types, sizes)
pastels (chalk and oil types)
charcoal (all types)
smocks/aprons

If you have other art supplies you'd like to donate, I'll gladly take those as well! Please email me at ColumbusArtmobile@gmail.com to set up a time to meet! Thanks : )

Accepting Donations!

In response to the huge outpouring of support and requests for ways to donate to the project, I've teamed together with Kickstarter.com to keep the fundraising momentum going. You can read my project proposal and make a donation here-

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/862233924/columbus-artmobile

95% of donations will go towards the Columbus Artmobile, and 5% back to Kickstarter. As an added bonus, anyone donating $100 or more will be rewarded with a spotlight feature on the Artmobile website! You can promote yourself, your business, anything that's important to you.

Thanks for your support!

Gearing Up!

While plans for the Artmobile are still in motion, I wanted to take a minute to thank the arts community in Columbus for it's generosity and support in helping to make this idea a reality. Ten years ago, I took a leap of faith and moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Columbus, Ohio in hopes of becoming a better painter. I never would have had the courage to make the move had I not had art as a part of my life from an early age. I hope to be able to bring the same opportunities I had, to those kids who've been going without art in their classroom, and I can't wait to get started.
